After a period of eager anticipation, the doors of the Surratts-Clinton Branch Library swung open on March 4, 2024, unveiling a newly renovated space brimming with literary delights and community-centric features. Nestled at 9400 Piscataway Road in Clinton, the library's transformation marks a significant milestone for the Prince George’s County Memorial Library System (PGCMLS) and the surrounding community.

In a departure from tradition, library officials opted to grant early access to the public, reflecting their unwavering commitment to serving the community's needs. The refurbished 25,682-square-foot interior promises a plethora of enriching experiences, with a particular focus on fostering a love for reading and learning among children and teens.

The heart of the renovation lies in the whimsical "Discovery Bay" children’s area, a vibrant oasis designed to ignite young imaginations. Boasting sailboat-shaped reading nooks, a charming lighthouse for literary adventures, and a captivating mural depicting the diverse wildlife of the Chesapeake Bay, the space exudes an aura of wonder and exploration. Seagulls soar overhead, while nautical-themed furniture beckons young readers to embark on literary voyages.

Library staff eagerly anticipate welcoming children from neighboring schools and the wider community into this captivating realm of imagination and discovery. "We are looking forward to welcoming back the Clinton community into our beautiful new space!" exclaimed a staff member. The library also features a dedicated teen area, providing adolescents with a sanctuary for study and socialization.

The Surratts-Clinton Branch Library boasts a wealth of amenities tailored to meet diverse needs. Sixty public computers, a state-of-the-art computer lab, and multiple study rooms offer resources for academic pursuits and digital literacy. A meeting room equipped with a stage and a conference room provides a platform for community gatherings and collaborative endeavors.

Moving forward, the Surratts-Clinton Branch Library will operate during standard PGCMLS hours, ensuring accessibility and convenience for patrons. More details about an upcoming grand opening event will be unveiled in due course, promising further opportunities for celebration and community engagement.

As the doors of the Surratts-Clinton Branch Library open wide, they usher in a new chapter of learning, discovery, and shared experiences. With its revitalized spaces and commitment to inclusivity, the library stands as a beacon of knowledge and inspiration for generations to come.
